When you first get the idea in your mind of how you want to live your life, it can seem like an impossibility. Most people that are seeking a radical life change are intimidated by the fact that they have no clue how to do it, and as a result, believe that this change will never happen for them.

Changing your life really is not as scary as you might believe it to be. The only thing holding you back is a lack of knowledge. Once you have the knowledge, you can use it to do anything you want.

We think all kinds of irrational thoughts when we are going through a life transition, and most of them are so far from the truth of what we can do, that we need to stop dedicating so much time and energy to them. We think things like:

• I don't know if I can make any money with what I truly want to do
• I could try and fail and then I'm back to square one
• I'm not strong enough
• I can't leave my job because they pay me well - I get bonuses and benefits!
• What if my car breaks down? How will I pay for repairs or a new car?
• Making sacrifices is hard
• I don't know anything about achieving goals

All of these thoughts are nothing more than excuses. I will break these down to show you just how ridiculous these statements are:

• I don't know if I can make any money with what I truly want to do
Anyone can make money doing something they love to do. Look around and find mentors and role models that are doing what you want to do, and find out how they earn a living doing it. It's not that hard. It just requires a bit of research. Start digging.

• I could fail and then I'm back to square one
What makes you think you will be back at square one? Sure you failed, but you acquired useful knowledge that can be used as a stepping stone to success. You now know what not to do, so you don't fail in the future. Revamp your approach and give it another go!

• I'm not strong enough
This statement is dripping with a lack of confidence in who you are, and your abilities. Anyone that has the drive and desire to achieve a specific goal will eventually achieve it. If you actually believe you aren't strong enough, you are right - and you need to work on boosting your self-esteem. When you believe you are strong enough, you will be strong enough.

• I can't leave my job because they pay me well - I get bonuses and benefits!
This one really gets under my skin. It's basically conceding that other people control your life and you are fine with that. No one that has achieved their dreams is so complacent that they let other people control them. You are worth more than the $12/hr you make. You can earn your own money and buy your own benefits. Again, this comes down to confidence. Don't believe the smokescreen that job life presents you.

• What if my car breaks down? How will I pay for repairs or a new car?
What if you go to the bank tomorrow and a robbery takes place? What if you visit the rainforest and get lost in the jungle? You have to understand that to live is to take risks - calculated risks - not reckless. This isn't to say you should be unprepared, but you can't be worrying about every negative scenario that pops into your mind. Save up your money, set aside the appropriate amount for a "just in case" scenario, and put it out of your mind as you work toward your dream life.

• Making sacrifices is hard
Sacrificing can be difficult, yes. But how badly do you really want to change your life? You might have to live for a year or two in not-so-ideal conditions in order to reap the harvest that your dream life will eventually give you. In the grand scheme of things, 365 days is not that long. Change your perspective and start to see making sacrifices as giving up something of a lower nature to receive something of a higher nature.

• I don't know anything about achieving goals
Great! Your mind is at the perfect place to acquire knowledge on how to set and achieve goals. So don't be lazy, go find the knowledge and put it to use!

Believing in yourself is what it really comes down to. What you believe about who you are and what you can do in this life is what will determine the results you get. If you believe you can change your life, you will change your life. If you don't believe it will happen, it will never happen.
