A friend sent an amazing story to share, in which she describes trusting her gut feelings in regard to breast cancer and her health care. It is another testimony to the importance of being proactive, honoring your instincts rather than acting on impulse out of fear. The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Her story lends support to many women including me at high risk and those who have been diagnosed and are undergoing treatment for various stages of breast cancer. If you have any uncertainty with a medical professional or a certain procedure, take time for your self to reflect on this rather than surrendering pressured to do something that feels wrong. Seek other medical opinions and research on your own. Ask as many questions as you need until you feel comfortable with your treatment plan and decisions. In the archives of this blog, Amazing Stories About Instincts and Intuitions you will find many stories to support using intuitive intelligence and logic to resolve health issues.
Here is my friend’s story…
“In May ’06 I went in for my routine mammogram. The mammogram showed suspicious calcification which led to a needle biopsy. The biopsy confirmed DCIS; Ductal Carcinoma in situ which is low stage breast cancer. I had a small lumpectomy and they wanted to follow up with radiation.
My gut told me to gather more information before undergoing radiation. I contacted the National Health Institute DCIS specialist by e-mail providing all the data from my tests. He responded by saying that because the cancer was low stage, very small, and removed with a wide margin of clear tissue I should wait on the radiation but follow up with an MRI. This confirmed my feelings.
I went for an MRI and they found a small amount of invasive cancer in an MRI guided biopsy. My surgeon told me that I had just saved my life! He said radiation would not have stopped the spread of this type of cancer, and by the time it was large enough to detect with a mammogram I would be in a far more serious condition. He recommended a mastectomy.
I ended up working with a team of women; both the surgeon and plastic surgeon and had a quadrant-ectomy which is basically a MAJOR breast reduction. It was all very intense but I felt very blessed. I had the support of friends, family, strangers and healers. I filled my body with golden light and love.
The operation went well. It was a little unnerving. They found NO cancer in the hospital pathology report! Did I heal myself or did they miss it? Last June I followed up with another mammogram, ultrasound and MRI. All reports came back clear. The doctors think the invasive cancer was so small it was all removed in the biopsy. I will continue regular follow-ups, and if something crops up I will attend to it immediately in the most appropriate manner. As you know, I was deathly afraid of having cancer. I had the opportunity to face my fear and find freedom. I trust myself…
