I read somewhere that women will spend on average 8 years of their life shopping! It was something like 25,000 hours over the course of a 63-year life span.

For someone who is more like a shop-a-phobic than a shop-a-holic, this is a staggering concept to me. One out of 20 women cannot control their urge to shop. Whether they need the item or not!

Why am I sharing this with you? Because I am in awe that the majority of women have no problem spending their money on clothing, shoes, and accessories that they may NEVER wear, but they hem and haw about spending money investing in their most valuable asset: themselves.

I know, I know, you could make a very good argument that buying new clothes is in fact investing in yourself. I would agree if that were why you were shopping. In fact, my friend Laurie makes a living helping people shop for clothes that make them look and feel their best. That I get.

But when you are dropping thousands of dollars a year on mindless spending and you’re not willing to invest your hard earned money on living to your FULL POTENTIAL, perhaps there is something askew with your values?

Upon hiring me, a new client told me that she was so excited to be giving herself this gift. She said she paused a bit over the monetary investment and then realized, as she looked in her closet, that she could spend the same amount of money on new clothes (and she has) and never get the return on investment that she will get by putting in the time and energy on learning more about herself. **You grow girl!**

We take ourselves for granted! You are your greatest asset and in so many ways you neglect to see your true value. Think about it, you are an asset to your husband, your children, your career, your friends, family and community. You contribute to the well being of others in so many ways. How do you contribute to YOU?

Think about it this way, if you take of yourself to give to others (withdrawal), and you don’t give back to yourself (deposit), eventually you will be running on an empty balance. And for some I know it’s more like running on the overdraft account. You’re going to have to pay the piper sooner or later.

What is it that stops you from investing in the potential of your beautiful & brilliant body, mind and Spirit?

Here is what I think:

• You value others more than you value yourself
• You question your worthiness
• You fear what may be exposed when you do the tough work
• You doubt your strength and ability to handle the tough stuff
• You don’t trust that you can do the hard work
• You are too proud to admit that you are not perfect
• You don’t know where to start
• You don’t want to do it alone
• It’s easier to maintain the status quo
• You take on too much
• You can’t possible take on one more thing.

Perhaps some of these resonate for you? All I have to say is, COME ON! What are you here for anyway? To just go through the motions? There is so much potential in you waiting to be freed. There are people who are craving what only YOU can give them. But first you MUST discover it for yourself.

My passion comes through about this topic, and it makes me sad to see smart, talented, brilliant women, settling for a life of mediocrity just because they are afraid of what they may have to face to get to the other side.

I can tell you with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that this is tough work. So if you are afraid that it will be painful, uncomfortable and trying, fear no more, now you know it will be.

HOWEVER, when you work your way through to the other side, there is so much joy, clarity, possibility and FREEDOM! It is worth all the blood, sweat and tears. YOU are worth it!

Your assignment: THINK ABOUT THIS! Then take action to invest in your development.
