We have talked about failure being a step toward success but now let's discuss a key attribute to that concept. Persistence is the necessary characteristic when pursuing your goals and dreams. There are three components to persistence that you must have in order to stay the course. They are a purpose, a desire and enthusiasm.

What is your purpose in achieving your goal? What do you want to gain from it? These are questions you must answer in order to properly channel your efforts. There is no right or wrong answer. The correct answer comes from you being honest with yourself about why you want to pursue your goals. When you have a definite purpose, you will be able to stay focused. Your purpose means that much to you that you will follow whatever path is needed to achieve your goal. My purpose in life is to help others; whether it is through speaking, writing or coaching. Thus my goal is to help others reach great heights by motivating them. To be able to show someone that you can do what it is that you want to do by changing how you think, and they believe is my motivation. For them to believe and become successful in achieving their goal is my satisfaction. Therefore I continuously speak and write regardless of anyone reading or listening to my motivational information.

Once you have your purpose, it needs to be supported by a strong desire. You have to want to accomplish your goal more than anything else. Your desire has to be so strong that it may appear to others to be an obsession. If you truly want to achieve your goal, your desire must be your passion. A strong desire will allow you to not let failed attempts be your defeat. By having a strong desire to achieve your goal, your purpose will be reinforced. Since my purpose is to help others achieve their goals and dreams through motivation, my desire is equally matched. I'm driven to spread my thoughts because I know that it will help others. My desire to be successful in having a positive impact on people's lives supports my purpose.

Now you have your purpose backed with a strong desire. All that is left is enthusiasm. Enthusiasm will automatically appear when you start something new. The key is to maintain a high level of enthusiasm. When you have a purpose and a strong desire, you will be excited in taking the steps to achieve your goal. When you have laid out a plan to reach your success, you will be ready to begin your journey. For every step of progression, you become more energized to accomplish your goal. Progression can be successes and failures. The most important point to enthusiasm is that it provides the energy for your purpose and desire. Enthusiasm does not recognize defeat. Only you can acknowledge defeat. If your purpose is backed by your STRONG desire, then you will always be enthusiastic. My passion for helping others fuels my desire. I'm excited every time I write or have the opportunity to speak in front of others. The opportunity to assist someone in recognizing that they can do whatever they dream gives me great satisfaction when someone is motivated by what I have written to pursue their dreams. It is enthusiasm that helps me analyze my ideas and bring them to others.

Collectively, all three create a persistent attitude. Persistence is focused on achievement. Being persistence allows you to understand that you will fail but to maintain on your course. Persistence does not take no for an answer. Being persistent gives you the ability to recognize when changes to your plan need to be made. Persistence is what all successful people have. I will continue to do what I do because one day I will be able to reach millions. I will not let failures stand in my way of success. As matter of fact, when I fail I'm happy. I'm happy because I'm not going to stop; I'm going to adjust my plan. That particular method did not work so what else can I do to achieve my goal. Failure and Rain are similar in this respect: they don't last forever and they both are instrumental in the growing process. I will remain persistent. You must remain persistent. We both will achieve our goals.
