The path towards meaning and fulfilment is far shorter and a lot less lonely, if you surround yourself with the right people. We all have people around us all the time, so instead of allowing them to just randomly appear in your life. Doesn’t it make sense to carefully select your inner circle, so that you can have a very supportive team surrounding you? A team of the right people, whom you can consistently contribute value towards and who in return will contribute great value back to you. Surround yourself with the right people with whom you can develop mutually beneficial relationships and who can encourage you, teach you and offer you support where necessary and you will have discovered one of the greatest success tools around.

You are the Average of the Five People Closest to You
It is commonly believed that you are the average of the five people you spend most of your time around. You eventually speak like them; think like them, act like them and your bank balance will be similar to theirs. Are you surrounding yourself with the right people, who exhibit some or all of the characteristics you aspire to have or be. Investing your time with the right type of people, will allow you to see possibility and in turn, make that possibility both believable and achievable for you.

The Right People Reveal Hidden Opportunities
When you surround yourself with the right people, you dramatically increase your chances of identifying opportunities, because you are consistently operating in a positive environment, which is conducive to creative thought and positive inspired action. An inner circle of the right people is one of the most powerful success tools you can have. When you are surrounded by the right people, they will gradually nudge you towards the success you desire. Surrounding yourself with the wrong people on the other hand, will have the opposite effect and you will be nudged off course each day, until you are so far off course, that you eventually won’t even remember where you were going in the first place.

Carefully Select Your Reference Group
Make sure that you carefully select the right people to include in your reference group. These people must consistently offer you a positive push, so that you can reach your full potential. When you envelope yourself in the perfect circle of excellence, your pathway towards the success you desire, will feel almost effortless and anything becomes possible for you.

Know what you need from your support group
Before you even get started with any new project, it is crucial that you know what sort of person you will need to support you. Once you have clarity about who you need to support you, mentor you and become part of your inner circle or reference group, it becomes possible to search for and identify these people. A well-chosen support group of trusted advisors will contribute invaluable information when needed and will offer guidance when the going gets tough. Be selective with whom you entrust your dreams, ensure that your support group speaks to your highest values and that they can see your greatness in their hearts.

Action Idea: There are several ways to create the positive environment, which will help lift you, closer to the achievement you want. Search for people who are successful themselves and who have done what you hope to do. Once you have identified the right people, work to include them in your network. Always find a way to develop a mutually beneficial relationship with them and try to ensure that there is always fair exchange between all concerned.

Finding a Mentor
Armed with the knowledge about who you need to support you on your success journey, identify a mentor who you feel can guide and assist you. Choose a mentor that has succeeded in areas where you wish to build your future. They must be the right mentors, who are willing, able, enthusiastic and compatible with your needs and personality. They must challenge you, hold you accountable and bring the best out in you. When you invest the time, energy and effort into discovering the right mentor or mentors, you will have discovered an incredibly valuable asset to fast forward your success.

Identify what you want to learn from your mentor and then look for innovative ways to connect with them in that specific area. Once you have invested time to identify a mentor, ensure that it is not a one way affair, where you take and the mentor gives. Mentor – mentee relationships can only work in the long term, if there is a modality of fair exchange between all concerned. Once you have developed the relationship, immerse yourself in positive listening, watching, reading and learn as much as you can.

Walk in the Footsteps of Others
Don’t be afraid to walk in the footsteps of others – for that is where the most skill and knowledge is acquired. When the time is right though, have the confidence and courage to stride out and make your own mark in the world.
