If you are a fan of Bollywood movies, you may think that India has become quite modern in its approach towards women’s clothing. However, the fact is that you need to study quite a bit of facts before wearing anything that does not qualify the standards of modesty in India. If you come from the western world, many things in India will shock you, but you can lessen the impact just by wearing appropriate clothes. While traveling, you must know when you can dress up conservatively or adventurously.

In the metropolitans

When you are in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chandigarh, you can take the liberty of wearing almost anything that reveals quite a bit of skin. If you have any confusion about choosing where to wear your spaghettis and skirts, you can do that in any of the tourist places where the tourist footfall is quite high. However, keep away from wearing revealing or tight-fitting clothes when you are at religious places. While wearing short clothes, you can keep your shoulders and knees uncovered, but refrain from revealing anything in excess of that unless you have a personal bodyguard in India. While traveling in public transport though, it is better that you be careful with your clothes. However, ignore the extra attention that you get when you travel in even in metro cities.

In small cities

After the metropolitans, you may have to visit small towns in India like Bhopal, Agra, and Puri, where many tourists visit. However, these tier-II cities are very conservative places where you would mostly go for religious tourism and hence refrain from wearing short clothes. It is fine to wear jeans, kurtis, loose fitted cotton clothes, etc. Refrain from wearing tight-fitted clothes or skin-revealing garments. Inappropriate clothing will fetch you unnecessary attention from anti-social elements that you will definitely not want.

In villages

People in villages are conservative yet safer than people in small towns. You should wear conservatively here in villages as well. However, if you are in tourist-friendly villages in any corner of India, you will often see women wearing shorts and spaghettis. If you do not see any eyeballs rolling in that direction, you can wear similar clothes. Watch the Indian tourists wearing anything you want to wear; you will get your clue.

When you are in India, be like locals. You will find people welcoming in small villages than in cities. Nevertheless, do not leave a chance to explore the country using Self Drive Car Rental Chandigarh or any other major city. Options of tourism are huge in India; do not let your clothing come in your way of exploring the gems of India. When you go back to your home country, you should have tales of adventures and peace to tell your peers, not the horror stories that encountered you just because an anti-social person decided to poke a foreigner. Do not generalize the entire country based on one experience of someone else’s experience. India is a beautiful country, just color yourself in the color of the locals to witness the real beauty.
