Dexmedetomidine hydrochloride is the salt form of dexmedetomidine, an imidazole derivative and active d-isomer of medetomidine consisting of analgesic, anxiolytic, and sedative activities.
In order to make surgeries safer, more comfortable, and painless for patients, many hospitals are willing to introduce dexmedetomidine hydrochloride to improve the sufficiency of anaesthesia. Currently, some researchers have focused on the effects of dexmedetomidine pretreatment on lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury in mice, while others have focused on the impact of primary neonatal rat cardiomyocytes under hypoxic/reoxygenation conditions using dexmedetomidine hydrochloride.
Compared with benzodiazepines and propofol, the incidences of delirium and coma associated with dexmedetomidine are relatively lower. Therefore, dexmedetomidine gradually becomes an alte
ative to benzodiazepines and propofol in sedation. Still, more studies regarding the efficacy and safety of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride are needed.
