Planning a family vacation can be tricky, but it gets much easier once all of you agree upon the most important thing – destination. Although the prices of accommodation are somewhat higher during the busy summer season, there are so many great places you can visit, where you will be able to have a dream vacation with your family without draining your bank account. Choosing affordable destinations doesn’t mean you get to say goodbye to the wonders of the world. Whether you plan to travel across the country or world, these destinations will prove to be a great choice, especially if being on a tight budget, yet hoping for some pleasant and memorable time.

Grand Canyon

Breathtaking nature and stunning sights make Grand Canyon a bucket list destination for many families. Aside from spectacular surrounding, The Grand Canyon National Park offers various activities for kids, like ranger training or fossil hunting. It is a perfect place for nature lovers, adventurers as well as those hungry for history (plenty of archeological sites of ancient Indian tribes). You can get there by car or train. Also, make sure to book accommodation at the National park at least six months ahead, but keep in mind that hotels in nearby towns like Flagstaff, Kanab (Utah) and Williams (Arizona) are far less expensive.

Yellowstone

Another iconic nature wonder in the US, Yellowstone is the Americas first National park, widely known for its geothermal features. Outstanding nature and rich wildlife will leave you quiet and inspired, while kids will find it fascinating. Drive your way through Yellowstone, take a bike or simply walk. Make sure to visit geysers that erupt like a clockwork and watch for bears or bison. Also, be ready to spot wild horses running around. Visiting Yellowstone on a budget is quite possible if you sleep outside the National Park and pack your lunch instead of dining in restaurants. There are plenty of picnic spots where you can have a first-class self-made barbecue and enjoy the freshest air in the world.

Bali, Indonesia

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Indonesia, the magical island of Bali is a budget-friendly option, assuming you manage to get a cheap flight. Some of the reasons to visit this place are unparalleled sunsets and sunrises, unique nature and marvelous Balinese cuisine. Aside from that, know that Bali is a place rich in history and culture and smiling welcoming people. The temples of Bali are another attraction that will make you want to explore the island and not just stay on the coast. Also, it is quite easy to entertain kids while in Bali, since many hotels have kid-friendly activities. Otherwise, you can always take them to Waterbom or Kemenuh Butterfly Park.

Tasmania

If you plan to visit the land down under, do not miss the Australian smallest state. It is an island with sandy beaches and azure sea, as well as snow-capped mountaintops. The list goes on since it is a home of surreal landscapes, unique wildlife and plenty of fantastic food. Whether you wish to learn about the bleak history of convict site at Port Arthur, sunbathe all day or hike your way through Tassie with Three capes walk tours, this is the destination that has something for everyone. Nothing will impress your kids more than seeing a kangaroo or Tasmanian devil.

Phuket, Thailand

The Island of Phuket is much more than a party destination or crowded shopping areas. Depending on where you stay, Phuket is a beautiful and quiet place with serene beaches and many more islands to explore. Things can be expensive as well as affordable in Phuket, starting with staying in beautiful villas to spending a day at the spa. There are plenty of activities for everyone, including children. You can take them to snorkel or pay a visit to the Trickeye Museum. Also, Phuket Aquarium is a real treat for people of all ages. Make sure not to miss Phuket Bird Park, a colorful place where you can see hundreds of tropical birds that you never knew they existed.

The Dominican Republic

A dreamlike place in the Carribean, Dominican Republic is a great destination for an affordable vacation with family. Fabulous beaches, beautiful colonial towns, waterfalls, and rainforests are just some of the things you can enjoy. It all revolves around outdoor activities, especially for children. Snorkeling, hiking around caves or whale watching will keep your children entertained. Also, learning a thing or two about the history of the place can be quite interesting, same as the visit to the neighbor island of Haiti. Accommodation prices are fairly reasonable, but you can always opt for some inexpensive Airbnb apartments.

Do not let your tight budget keeps your family from seeing the world and having a good time. Sometimes it is all about good organization, booking flights and accommodation timely as well as being prepared to cut down needles travel expenses. Use your money wisely and consider taking the less beaten paths. Traveling in like that usually is less expensive while it holds many hidden gems.
