One of the sure ways to ensure success in life is to achieve your goals to live your dream. Measuring ones’ success comes from a personal perspective. Some people measure life success by their financial status. Some people measure life success by having a healthy, peaceful family. Some people measure life success by having the career they desire. No matter what success looks like to the individual, it is attainable through the process of achieving goals.

A dream or vision for your life comes when there is a desire for your personal or professional life to look differently than it is at that moment. Usually when a person has a dream for their life, there is a gap between where they are now and where they want to be. The dream allows you to see the ending that you desire, such as a six-figure income, a family sitting at the dinner table eating together and laughing or a career that allows you to network with like-minded people and supports ideal vacations. Then it is up to the individual to do what they have to do to make sure that dream becomes a reality. This is where achieving goals play a key part.

Achieving goals in life and becoming successful, does not happen overnight. I believe you should set time aside to dream about what you want. Then the ideas you come up with have to be arranged in a simple systematic order. It takes planning and strategic implementation. It also takes commitment. I choose the word commitment over discipline because commitment denotes something you want to do where discipline can denote something you have to do. It takes patience because on this journey there are no straight roads to “get there.” The road on a life of living your dream has ups, downs, curves, pauses, yields, cautions and stop signs. It is also necessary to have a mind that is made up to hang in there through each “road sign” that may be experienced.

In order to achieve your goals, first you have to set some. When setting goals, it is important to make sure each objective is moving toward the dream. Some of the goals can be small do-able steps and others will cause you to stretch beyond your comfort zone. Also your goals must be attainable.

Let’s take a look at a goal with small do-able steps. If you want a career that appeals to you that when you work, it doesn’t feel like work at all, then the first do-able step is to decide which career will best suit you. Then you get the education or pursue the connections which will take you in that direction. Now say for instance the career you want is flourishing more in another state which is seven hundred miles away, then a move maybe necessary. If you have only lived in your current state then this move will be a stretch beyond your comfort zone. When looking at both objectives, they are attainable. All of this must be done to move you closer to achieving your goals to live your dream.
