The popularity of practicing yoga has grown worldwide because of its benefits to emotional, mental and physical health. It is an effective means of reliving stress and anxiety which brings about positive effects that can range from boosting the energy levels of the body, improving sleeping habits, strengthening the spinal column, and even in relieving digestive conditions. Aside from that, yoga could also be an effective means of battling eye diseases and disorders. Yoga for eyes will not only make the eyes refreshed and revitalized but the whole soul as well.
They say that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. In yoga, where calming the souls is one of the main goals, the eyes are really important. Our eyes need attention and care. Among the parts of the human body, the eyes are more prone to stress and tension. When it is not given much care and attention, the eye sight of a person will surely become poor. That’s too bad because poor eyesight will not only lead to poor performance but could also ruin your appreciation of the views and sceneries at its fullest. Thankfully, there is such thing called yoga for eyes.
Truly, yoga could be a part of promoting eye health. There are yoga eye exercises that could be tried by any one. If you are not into yoga, no need to panic on chanting mantra and phrases. You do not have to do that. One yoga for eyes is called shavasana which is also known as the corpse pose. The corpse pose relaxes all the body parts. To do this pose, lie motionless on the floor. Close your eyes. The body should be relaxed from head to toe. If the body is in relaxed state, the eyes will be refreshed too.
After that, eye exercises could be done easily. To refresh and relax stressed and tired eyes, close your eyes for as much as you can. Hold the pose for a few minutes and then quickly open your eyes and blink repeatedly. Breathe deeply for a minute or two. Open your eyes and focus on one object. Immediately close your eyes again, breathe deeply again, and focus on visualizing the object in your mind. This yoga exercise will not only help your stressed eyes but also improve your concentration.
Another yoga for eyes is called Nasagra-Drushty. It’s main act is keeping the eyes open. First, sit comfortably on a mat and look as far as you can. Do not move your head. Maintain this pose for a few seconds. After that, move your eyes downwards and focus on the tip of your nose. Hold the gaze for a few seconds and then blink. Repeat the process for five times.
So there you have it. For yogis and non-yogis, it is time to check this out.
