Combining visualization, meditation and affirmation provides a powerful means to reaching your goals. By visualizing you connect and communicate with your subconscious in pictures. We dream in pictures or symbols, physics receive messages in pictures, and all through the ages prophets have been given visions or pictures. By visualizing while in a relaxed state of meditation, we are more receptive to the messages of the affirmation and less conscious of the chatter of the critical ego.
In addition to using our sense of sight, in that we see the goal by picturing, we can use our other senses in visualization. Combining sight, smell, sound, taste and touch, is very powerful.
Imagine your goal
Let’s say that your desire is to have a house on the beach. Take some time to get a clear picture of what your house looks like. Keep this picture in mind to use in your meditation. Prepare some affirmations for use in your meditation such as the one suggested here. Read through the meditation guide a few times before you do the practice. Some music in the background is helpful for inducing relaxation.
Guide to Meditation
Begin by getting into a comfortable and relaxed position. It’s not necessary to sit in any particular position, just as long as you feel comfortable. Lying down is fine, however you may tend to fall asleep and it’s important that you remain awake for the meditation to be of full benefit.
Begin to allow your body to relax.
Take a couple of deep breathes. As you breathe in allow your abdominal area to expand. As you breathe out, imagine that you are releasing tension from your body. You may be surprised even at this point to recognize how much tension is in your body.
The following is what is called fractional relaxation:
Begin to focus your attention at the crown of your head. You may like to imagine that a light, liquid in form, is beginning to spread out from the crown of your head. The light is about the consistency of honey, and as it spreads across the top of your head you feel it relaxing any tension there may be in this area. You may feel a tingling sensation. It could begin to feel warm or cool, depending upon your needs for the moment. This is your meditation and whatever is needed is being provided.
Move down to your forehead. As you do so, you know that the top of your head has been placed in a state in relaxation.
Continue to feel this sensation as it slowly spreads across your forehead and down the back of your head. You could have this happen simultaneously or first across the forehead and then down the back of the head. Whatever feels most comfortable for you. Just focus and relax that portion of your body.
As you continue to move through each portion of your body, know that the act of concentrating and focusing has placed each previous area into a state of relaxation.
Relax your eyes. Relax your eyelids. Relax your cheeks. Imagine a feeling of flowing or melting as the light travels through your body. You feel a slight smile, which tends to relax the face. It feels so good to be taking the time to do this.
Continue to breathe and with each breathe you feel yourself becoming more and more relaxed. Repeat the word “relax” slowly each time you exhale.
Relax each portion of your body this way. Take your time. Concentrate on that portion of your body and repeat the word relax as you exhale.
Relax your shoulders. Imagine the liquid or light slowly moving across your shoulders, down your arms and with it cleansing and removing negative energy and tension.
Continue with your chest area and your abdomen. Relax your back, first the upper back then the lower back. Go to the pelvis area, the thighs, the calves and the feet. With each breathe you become more and more relaxed.
Your entire body is now relaxed and calm. It feels so good to be this relaxed. Now simply relax, calmly, enjoying this feeling. Thank your body for relaxing. Thank your Higher Power for the ability to enter this state.
Now imagine that you find yourself at the top of stairway. You feel compelled to see what is at the bottom of the stairwell. It’s well lit and you know it is safe and you will be blessed in some way as you descend the stairs. You feel yourself slowly floating down, counting from one to ten as you go down deeper. One, two, three. You are going deeper and deeper. Four, five, six. With each step you feel yourself going deeper and deeper. Seven, eight, nine, ten.
*You can use this technique as the introduction to any visualization you are using.
The Visualization
As you reach the bottom of the stairs you look around and see that you have arrived at the destination of your house on the beach.
Walk into your house. Look around. See what your kitchen looks like, what your bedroom looks like or any other aspect of the house that makes you feel happy.
How wonderful it is to be able to walk around your home and every time you pass your window you look out and see the ocean and the waves.
Breathe in and smell the salt air.
Hear the sounds of the ocean’s waves as they hit the shore. Hear the sounds of the birds as they fly overhead and land on the beach in front of you.
Run your tongue across your lips and taste the slight saltiness. You have that taste every time you come here to your house on the beach.
As you sit on your chair on the porch, you might want to have a rocking chair. Feel the rocking motion as you rock gently back and forth.
Feel the slight movement as the breeze comes across your cheeks.
Feel the small droplets of moisture from the ocean air and taste them as you again run your tongue across your lips.
On an emotional level, feel what it feels like to know this is your house, what it feels like to walk through it, to sit on the deck or patio at look out at your view.
Feel how grateful you are that this is your home. You can relax here by yourself or you can have friends over and share good times and laugher and meals together. Whatever you want.
Make statements associated with the reality of you having this house on the beach such as:
I am so grateful to be sitting on my porch and looking out at the ocean.
I am surrounded with the smell of the ocean air.
I hear the birds as they fly around over the water and as they land and walk around on the beach.
I am filled with appreciation and gratitude every evening as my friends and I have our dessert on the deck and watch the sunset.
I am so blessed as I sit in my home and look out the window at such grandeur.
I am surrounded by the sights and sounds of a part of God’s creation.
I am enfolded in the Love of the Universe
And So It Is!
When you are ready, slowly begin to feel yourself coming back into your room. Feel the furniture you are sitting on. Feel your clothing next to your body. Slowly count to five as you come out of your mediation. Open your eyes feeling relaxed, healthy and whole.
