“Neglect starts out as an infection then becomes a disease.” ~ Jim Rohn

I like to be positive most of the time, and in that vein today I would like to talk to you about something that will make all the difference. Let’s discuss neglect. You may not have thought of it this way before, but I’m sure you’ll agree, that in life we can either pay the price of discipline or the price of regret. Think about that for a moment. Now see if you can relate it to something from your past. Ouch…. Hits home, doesn’t it.

In life there are things that don’t make a major difference, as to whether you do them or not. Is it really that important if you don’t do the dishes tonight? Does it make a major difference to how your life will turn out? It feels good to have a clean kitchen, but for one night, it won’t make or break a life of success. Leaving the dishes everyday, may be more indicative of a lazy and neglectful attitude. Eventually it could lead to health issues and conflict in the home.

Let’s look at exercise. If you neglect it for one day, it’s unlikely to make a major difference over a lifetime. However, if you start neglecting it every day, and every week, there will be serious long term implications to your health, possibly weight and energy, that are major precursers in your lifetime health and happiness.

What about education? What happens if you neglect your studies for one day…..Well that may depend on if it’s the day before exams or not. Worse still, what if you neglect to read the book that could reshape your thoughts, attitudes, or even your world. Or you miss the moment to have the conversation with someone who is precious in your life, and you have the opportunity to tell them how much they mean to you. Or your child comes to you full of expectancy to show you something they’ve just done. Don’t neglect the moment to tell them you’re so proud, you love them, or just how much they mean in your life.

Don’t neglect the daily consistencies that pave the path to success. Write the reports. Do the planning. Take the action. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be done. We usually have opportunity to correct if it doesn’t come out quite right. But the action taken means more to the people affected (yes, even you), than the action not taken.

So, be present in your life. You are the co-creator of your life. Take the action, read the book, do the study, say the words….. don’t neglect it. For as sure as you live, it will be the things you neglect that will be the things you regret when you look back on your life. Neglect is like a cancer, it builds up daily and consumes our lives. We need to resist it more firmly than terrorism. Start now, and make a list of at least 5 things you’ve been neglecting and take action on one. It could be relational, career, health, goal or financially related. Just do it. You’ll be pleased you did!

yours positively
