When a man takes you on that first tour of his house, he's revealing more than he might intend. This is especially true of his most intimate space - his bedroom.

Think about it. Have you ever walked into a man’s bedroom and had the feeling you never wanted to leave—or that it’s time to run, very quickly in the other direction? There’s a reason for those instant, intuitive reactions. Whether we’re aware of it or not, there’s often a hidden meaning in what we buy. The bedroom is no exception. What a man puts into this most personal space speaks volumes about him.

The Platform Bed

The Platform bed shows he’s in tune with what’s hip, but it also says he likes feeling grounded, is in touch with reality and values the simple things in life. This guy has boyfriend potential written all over him.” And in bed? The attraction to the subtle Asian influence of the Platform bed can translate into a Zen-like subtlety in love-making. Tantra anyone?

The Metal Bed

Whether it’s brass, iron, steel or aluminum, if it’s made of metal and has posts or bars there’s a good chance he’s thought of how to use them. The attraction to metal beds says this man is very much in touch with his masculine side. He values strength, control and can have a “take no prisoners” attitude about life and love. If you can give as good as you get, this could be the perfect stage for creating some very spicy bedtime stories.

The Traditional Bed

Whether wooden or fabric, a bed with a solid headboard says deep down inside he probably believes in marriage, family and a modern version of the white picket fence. If the style is a sleigh bed you can also include an element of safety and security adding up to cozy nights of lovemaking, sleeping and talking about the future. This one is definitely relationship material and if you’re looking for a long term mate, he probably shares your dream. The foundation is there—the rest is up to you!

The Water Bed

Austin Powers, baby! Unless he has a bad back, the take on him is retro all the way. This might translate into being stuck in the past, but if you’re the nostalgic type this could be a very comfortable match. If not, I’d take a peak in the closet for leisure suits. This bed could also mean he’s pretty set in his ways. He finds something he believes works for him and sticks with it no matter what. If you’re looking for adventure in the bedroom this is not the man for you.

The Plantation Bed

You know the one. Huge, heavy wood, setting up so high you need steps to get into it. This guy likes to be lord of the manor and master of all he surveys. But he’s also probably adventurous, romantic and a take charge kind of man you can count on. Solid, heavy and elegant this bed and its owner can be an oasis of slow, leisurely, drive you crazy pleasure. And if you’ve ever fantasized about being swept off your feet this may be your big chance.

The “No Bed” Bed

If his bed looks like just place to “flop” or worse yet, it’s only a mattress on the floor; this guy needs a closer look. This lack of attention to his love-making environment may translate into other areas of a relationship. It might also mean he’s afraid of commitment or he just can’t be bothered about details (like your birthday). Our advice—look under the covers for more clues. Four hundreds thread count sheets on a “no bed” says he at least appreciates the finer things in life. If you find old, worn or scratchy sheets, this could be a red flag. He’s not the sensitive type and a short lived fling is a real possibility.

More Clues from the Bedroom

Candles: He thinks ahead about romance and mutual pleasure. You like the soft light; he likes how you look in it.

Music: If it’s smooth and romantic look for a nice long night of loving. Driving and hard, could be a new land speed record, but you may go down smiling.

Neat & Clean: He cares what you think about him. A real plus long term if this is a habit
and not just a first impression deal. It means he cares about himself too and that’s just as important.

Oils: A sensory type who likes to explore and discover. If he starts with you, you’ve got a winner.

Toys: If they’re out in the open, be very sure you want to go there because he’s going to want to play sooner rather than later. If in a nightstand it shows he’s open to fun but respectful about it. It will probably be your choice.

Movies & Magazines: And I'm not talking Good Housekeeping or Bambi. It’s your call. You’re either into it or not. If not, this is your exit cue. He’s not going to change and chances are good he’ll want you to share his hobby.

We all have our quirks and personal taste, but what a person surrounds himself with is no accident. By being observant, and using your impressions as a springboard for more revealing conversation you can get to the heart of what you’re looking for much faster. And girls, these “bedroom” descriptions apply to you too! So what does your bed reveal?
