With the ever growing issues with obesity in modern societies, people have come to recognize that something in modern life has changed from the past. While obesity existed in the past, it was a rarity among all but the wealthiest of people. Weight loss programs should always start with a consultation with your doctor. Here are some healthy living weight loss tips based on how our bodies are meant to be used and cared for:

1. Eat regular meals. This may seem like the last thing you should do if you want to begin losing weight. Space your meals out evenly during the day so that you are never tempted to overeat because of extreme hunger. Your metabolism will keep functioning at optimal speed only if you eat food regularly.

2. Eat natural foods. One of the main differences between food now and in the past is the density of calories. Our modern foods are processed to take out the healthy fibers and other nutrients that may dilute strong flavorings. In some cases they are also cooked in extra oil to make them more palatable. Instead we need to be eating these foods with all of their natural fibers and nutrients, in as close of a form to their natural state as possible. Concentrate on whole foods such as whole grains, fruits, seeds, nuts, and vegetables.

3. Beware of fats and sugars in the processed foods you eat. Make slow changes in the amounts you eat of each as you progress towards more of the natural foods. One of the easiest ways of making the transition is to permanently replace each sugary or fatty food in your diet with a natural food each week.

4. Drink plenty of water. Your body is mostly made up of water. The functions of your body that maintain your life all depend on water. A small person needs at least 64 ounces of water over the course of each day to maintain optimal body function. If you want to keep your metabolism at full functionality, make drinking water a daily priority in your life. Avoid sodas, even diet sodas. Avoid juices, eating the fruits or vegetables instead. Water is the only liquid your really need in your body.

5. Exercise must be the centerpiece of healthy living weight loss. Weight loss should be centered around working out with weights and doing cardiovascular exercises. But for beginners, it is perfectly fine to simply go out and walk each day. You will find you get healthier and lose weight faster if you are consistent with your weight loss exercise program.

6. Be patient with your weight loss program. It is actually unhealthy to lose more than two pounds of fat per weeks. And, you are more likely to keep the weight off if you lose the weight at a slower healthy living weight loss rate.
