The Astrological Profile of Barack Obama

The natal chart of Barack Obama gives us a portrait of quite an amazing man. From a purely astrological perspective, he has the most balanced elemental energies I’ve ever seen. The elements of earth, water, air, and fire are all equally distributed across his chart. This means that he is equally grounded while also being compassionate, intuitive, and truly concerned for the welfare of others. It also means that he is a very intelligent man with a lot of great ideas combined with the fiery, enthusiastic passion to implement those very ideas.

In addition, his chart type is characterized as a “Splash” which means that his planets are fairly evenly distributed around his chart. What this represents is someone who is very versatile with many interests, well-rounded, and, most importantly, very balanced.

Indeed, this was illustrated quite vividly when the recent economic crisis and raw politics threatened to derail the first presidential debate. John McCain challenged Barack Obama to delay the first presidential debate and join forces to help Washington fix the financial mess, but Barack Obama firmly and decisively rejected McCain’s request. He went on to say that, “It’s my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who, in approximately 40 days, will be responsible for dealing with this mess. “It’s going to be part of the president’s job to deal with more than one thing at once.”

This statement by Barack Obama perfectly illustrates his adeptness at quickly shifting gears and handling difficult situations and succinctly stating the truth of a situation. It furthers sheds light on the fact that he understands that being the President of the United States demands the ability to keep his boss, the American people, informed as to what is going on in the world.

In all actuality, Barack Obama is a modern day Renaissance man who will, without a doubt, be able to find a successful way out of the total chaos that has been left behind by the Bush Administration and the Republicans. Indeed, in light of the current economic crisis and the greatest bank failure in American history, it does seem as though he is the right man for the job in just the nick of time. Unfortunately and quite amazingly, it does seem as though his greatest obstacle in being elected to the presidency will be old-fashioned racism. It is truly astounding to me that in 2008, the color of a man’s skin can actually be a liability.

Maybe we should just give up on advancing humanity forward and return to living in caves and clothe ourselves in animal skins because it does seem that we’re more interested in going backward than forward. It really doesn’t appear that we’ve advanced very far as a nation on a spiritual level at all. I pray this election proves me wrong.

Okay, moving on from there, I have also noticed that his chart pattern looks like a strong candidate for a bucket chart. This is where the planets are guided by one (sometimes two) planet(s) on the other side of the chart making it resemble the handle of a bucket. The handle is called a singleton. The singleton(s) become extremely important in telling us what motivates the person in question. There are two planets conjunct (Saturn & Jupiter) that would act as the singletons (handle for the bucket).

I can see that the Jupiter/Saturn handle could actually work as a kind of heavy-duty, dually enforced handle, if you will, for the bucket in his chart. This would imply that he has special talents in the area of big business, organization, and structure. He also has a very innovative and progressive mind that is gifted with coming up with unique concepts and solutions to effectively repair the hobbled American state of our country.

I predict that he will go down in history as one of our nation’s great leaders by pulling us out of this potentially severe economic crisis very much the way FDR did with his New Deal plan during the Great Depression. Barack Obama’s Jupiter and Saturn conjunction located in his 12th house indicates that he has an incredible intuitive ability to sense the best course of action. He also tends to be someone who enjoys taking on immense responsibilities. He does have the ability to handle those responsibilities, but he can tend to sacrifice himself for a greater cause.

In fact, sacrifice and service to others is a recurring theme throughout his entire chart. Unfortunately, it does appear that the current state of affairs in the United States will definitely require an immense sacrifice on the parts of Mr. Obama and his staff to overcome the impending calamities of a potential second Great Depression, an environmental meltdown (quite literally), the current holy war against the U.S., the housing crisis, skyrocketing unemployment, and the difficulties of setting up a successful American health care system that isn’t a joke for the middle class.

Barack Obama’s sun in Leo and Mercury in Leo are located in his sixth house of service. All Leo energy has an intense desire to be the best and to really “shine” brightly like the sun. Since he has two planets in this house, this indicates that his greatest and most fervent desire is to serve the people and bring about a solid hands-on approach that gets things done. The sixth house energy also greatly enhances his intellect since it is ruled by Mercury which represents intelligence and the human mind. In summary, he has a fierce desire to use his intelligence to find ways to change things for the better for the people of this country.

In fact, his Moon is in Gemini in his fourth house. What this represents, once again, is a highly intellectual person who values the people of this country and their needs (the fourth house rules family, home, country, citizens). What this says is that he truly values communicating his ideas to the people and listening to them in return. When was the last time America ever had a president who genuinely cared what anyone of us had to say? His approach is soundly built upon the foundations of democracy. He perfectly symbolizes the “government of the people, by the people, for the people” described by Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address.

Barack Obama reminds me of FDR and Abraham Lincoln kind of rolled up into one. He reminds me of Lincoln mainly because of his history of determinedly working his way up as a young man to become the president of the Harvard Law Review. He went on to graduate magna cum laude from Harvard. Afterwards, he could have easily taken his pick among the elite law firms to further his career and financial situation, but instead he chose the path less traveled by and joined a smaller law firm that specialized in civil rights litigation and neighborhood economic development. He chose to fight for the less fortunate much like Lincoln did when he publicly spoke out against slavery for the first time in 1837 as a courageous young state representative of Illinois.

This was despite the accepted social view that slavery was perfectly acceptable. Lincoln’s fervent desire to abolish slavery became one of his greatest passions of which he finally saw the beginning of with his signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Abraham Lincoln had his Neptune tightly conjunct his Ascendant and therefore making a huge imprint on his need to bring a higher vision to fruition for his nation. Ultimately, his Neptune entailed the immense sacrifice and suffering that he helped his country endure. His greatest goal was to reunite the warring factions of America and to heal the deep divisions between the north and the south because of the Civil War.

In a very similar way, Barack Obama’s Neptune is the most elevated planet in his natal chart. His Neptune resides in Scorpio in his 9th house of philosophy, religion, higher education, and the search for truth and meaning. Since his Neptune is in Scorpio, this only intensifies his quest for healing and unifying the bitter divide between the Republicans and Democrats. It also seems that he could potentially lay the groundwork for a more unified world community by sharing his vision of a world that transcends the boundaries of religion, class, sex, race, and nationality.

Are you seeing any similarities here?

The only question is what exactly will be Barack Obama’s greatest vision for the American people? It appears likely that he will restore America’s place amongst the world community as one of a fair and just nation and to eliminate anything that even hints of the American imperialism we have witnessed under our current president. It is also quite obvious that he wants to restore American’s faith in the American dream because he, himself, would never be able to be in the auspicious position that he finds himself in any other country in the world.

Lastly, it is interesting to note that both FDR and Lincoln were both Aquarian Sun signs and that Obama has an Aquarian Ascendant as well as his Jupiter in Aquarius. He also has his North Node conjunct his Uranus (the ruler of Aquarius) in an angular house (his 7th). What this means in plain English is that he is quite literally wired to implement the Aquarian concepts of freedom, forward thinking progress, and revolutionary brilliance. This is simply who he is as a human being. So am I overstating the case here a little bit with Mr. Obama?

Maybe so, but I can assure you that Barack Obama’s astrology chart gives me a portrait of an individual with not only a heightened sense of integrity, truth, honor, and idealism, but also the intelligence, common sense know-how, and the inner flame to drive him forward through these dark times that we all find ourselves in. Quite honestly, the American people haven’t seen a presidential candidate with Barack Obama’s potential for greatness in far too long. Think about how very different our country (and the world) would be if Lincoln and FDR had not been elected during the turbulent crises they both faced. Think about that. It’s a pretty sobering thought.
