A bridge between the old and the new
Imagine yourself seated comfortably on the
soft cushioning of a mat, in a warm peaceful room, water
flowing in the background to soft soothing music. Your
thoughts begin to drift away, as you deeply inhale you
feel the warmth of the therapist’s hands as they gently
touch your back. This is the start of your Thai Massage session.
Thai Massage translates to the physical act of loving kindness, or METTA, in Ayurvedic Medicine. To touch with intention.
This is an ancient art from over 2,500 years ago that blends acupressure, rhythmic rocking, compression massage and deep assisted stretches for total body balancing and relaxation.
First the feet are warmed up through pressure point massage, ankle stretches and rotations. The massage begins with grounding and establishing a rhythm with the breath of both the receiver and therapist. This forms the foundation of the entire massage.
The entire body is then worked up to the head with emphasis on energy lines called Sip Sen, or the Sen Lines which can carry tightness or restrictions to the body. When the energy lines are opened the energy can flow freely and in harmony with a universal energy connecting to ourselves and our source. This is why energy balancing is so important in Thai Massage.
You cannot work the energy without affecting the body. The body is the pathway to the energy, or ‘PRANA’ ,which flows through every living thing. As each energy pathway is addressed, it begins to release the restrictions within it and through the body. This is where the deep stretches come to play. The body is taken through various stretches, as you fully relax and breathe deeply as the therapist supports you and can take your muscles to their deepest range.
Each joint, ligament, tendon and muscle is addressed by stretching and compression massage. Through allowing each joint in the body to open, relax and go through it’s full range of motion helps to prevent arthritis and help those who suffer from it’s effects.
For those with injuries or tension, fatigue in the muscles is relieved and the ligaments and tendons become healthier, stronger and more pliable. Posture is also improved as the spine is brought back into alignment.
As you breath deeply into deep relaxation, your mind clears, bringing you into a meditative state. Tour breath is in sync with the therapist’s, and the massage begins to flow as if it were a dance. As you move from your back to sitting, your body feels more light, relaxed and fluid. Your energy is shifting in your body making every living cell work at it’s highest potential. This is where you begin to heal.
Everything from the immune system to the digestive system is being worked, cleansed, opened and strengthen through this massage. No other massage out there can guarantee that.
Your body will thank you, your mind will thank you, and your spirit will thank you.
