When I started by own personal journey to recover a life I really wanted, and a life free from addictions, I longed for serenity. I felt the squirrels were constantly running lose in the cage I call my head. They gave me no peace.

Today, they are still there at times, but on an ever increasing basis, I know peace, I enjoy serenity. I welcome quiet.

What happened?

Simply, I reached a point where I surrendered to a higher power, a power greater than me. That power was given the right to tend to my squirrels, and does a much better job than I ever did. I found this serenity through Good Orderly Direction and conscious contact and reaching out. I found my higher power inside of me and I enjoy what is referred to as eternal life here and now. I know what serenity is, and it is a space I love to live in.

The squirrels do not have to run loose in my head. I have a choice. To get where I'm at today, I got a lot of help. It came through a group fellowship, it came through professional help and I continue to reach out to experts on a regular basis to get the help I need. The "Physician cannot heal himself". I need help.

Addictions and squirrels became a big part of who I was because I had a real problem with living. Things like stress, relationship issues, employment issues, low self-esteem, and lack of energy, depression, and acting out, people pleasing all caused the squirrels to gallop in the cage. I needed help and FINAALY, after a long period of time trying to do it my way at the sacrifice of serenity, I got the help I needed, and continue to get it, to help me create the life I want and was meant to have.
