Dear High Achiever:

I love the latest commercial. Besides being extremely entertaining, CareerBuilder makes a powerful point at the end of the commercial with two tag lines; Self-Help Yourself and Start Building.

If you haven’t seen it, after reading today’s FYI / TGIM log on to and type in “Career Builder Self-Help Yourself.”

BTW: It’s not just about job hunting. Here’s why: Personal Development and Self Growth is not an easy endeavor. It takes work, focus and self-discipline. This is where 99.9% of the people trying to transform their lives have the greatest challenge.

It’s just easier to not do the work. There is an effort needed to prepare, focus and actually take action toward change. Then there is the stick-to-it-tive-ness necessary to follow through.

So, in that regard, the Self-Help Yourself and Start Building close is -

A reminder and a motivator. CareerBuilder is just the vehicle. They’re the conduit to the opportunity. The jobs on are available to everyone. Just like Self-Growth, the information, philosophies and formulas to create an amazing personal breakthrough are available to everyone, often FREE.

So what’s the problem? Personal Development, Self-Growth and a high-paying rewarding career is not an entitlement.

You have to Self-Help Yourself. The ad’s closing line doesn’t say, “Just leave your lazy butt parked on the couch and we’ll bring the high paying jobs to you.” They want you to be mindful that the job seeker has to have an active part in the process. It takes self-discipline, passion, energy and focus. And –

You also need to know “WHY?” What is your burning desire? Why must you have a rewarding career … a healthy lifestyle … a triumphant marriage … a balanced family-life … the respect of your children and, a connection with your higher-power?

Without a big enough “WHY?” it probably won’t happen. You’ll just stay parked on the couch with the remote in your hand.

FYI ACTION IDEA: I want to suggest a strategy to help you, Self-Help Yourself. The strategy has worked for me for years. Whenever I get in a rut or I feel like I need a Self-Jolt to Self-Help Myself, I implement this strategy immediately.

As a matter of fact, I’m re-starting this strategy today and I want to encourage you to join me.

Caution: I compare it to a military boot-camp or basic-training. It’s similar to the 6 weeks I spent at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas back in, wow, 1983. The difference between this training and my experience in Texas is, these days, I have to wake myself up at 4:30 am. I don’t have a Tech-Sergeant screaming in my ear.

The good news: This Self-Help Yourself program is only 30 days and you don’t have to shave your head or leave home. So -

Fall in. First, I want you to think of a specific area in your life that you MUST change or improve NOW! If you are passive and don’t care that much, or if you’re feelings are simply it would just be nice to experience this change — don’t do it. You don’t care enough. Your feelings about changing this situation must be intense.

Idea Starters: I don’t know what it is for you, it might be your health, weight, relationship with your significant other or your children, your connection with your higher power or your money situation. Whatever it is, you must have intense feelings about fixing it NOW!

The next step: Find credible information that will help you dramatically improve or FIX whatever it is you need to FIX.

And the next: After you acquire the information, write out a 30-day daily behavior, attitude and activity schedule that you take action on every day to experience a personal breakthrough.

FYI IDEA IN ACTION: I used the same strategy when I needed to transform my body. I found credible information, people who were successful in the area of physical transformation, a proven strategy, and I applied the same strategy every day until I achieved the results I wanted.

This technique is often referred to as modeling. Find somebody having success in an area you MUST have success in and take the same exact action steps they did.

Now, as CareerBuilder encourages -

Start Building. Commit to yourself that you are going to stay the course for 30 days. Whatever happens, no matter what else is going on in your life, you are going to apply every free moment outside of your work and family time to transform and make significant improvements in your specific area.

Big payoff: Stay the course for 30 days and I promise you will see significant improvement, you will feel better about yourself and you will never be the same again.

Self-Help Yourself. Start Building Today!
