Tips to effective public speaking by CTM Derek Wong and CTM Anna Chew

Many aspire to be great speakers and it is through preparation, confidence and practices that one can raise from good to great world-class speakers.

There are many keys to be a world-class speaker.

Here are some successful tips.

Preparation

With practices, studies of great speakers and speeches amendments of a good speech to a first class speech and rehearsals in front of a mirror, a tape recording or sharing with your partner/ friend, you sure can know your strengths and weakness and dramatically improve the appreciation and effectiveness of your speech to your audience.

Confidence

While this may be in your genes, preparation is a good way to have confidence. Mastery and knowledge of subject is key to confidence. You can also gain confidence by observing great speakers. ( Learning from them through Toastmasters International, a Dale Carnegie course/ public speaking training). In short, confidence can be trained through preparation, observation and polished practices.

The voice

Eat well and sufficient water is good/wise action for the throat. Proper breathing techniques are needed for good voice projection. Well - time pauses can make your speech more powerful and effective.

Body language and dressing

Good body language (good eye contact and appropriate stage walk and postures/gestures) coupled well suitable effective dressing can bring much applause to your presentation. Humor, clichés and quotation can also add spice to good speeches.

If you can talk, you can be a world - class speaker.

Everyone has good speaking capabilities. Wisely trained and polished, if you can talk and aspire to be a great world - class speakers, you can be one!

Thomson Toastmasters Club (English) can be your path/training choice to groom you to be a better thinker, listener and leader. The members meet every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at Thomson CC Level two meeting room (beside the gym).
