How would you define integrity? You know it’s an admirable trait but what exactly is it? I would define integrity as:

‘The ability to do the right thing, even when the right thing may be the hardest thing to do.’

Integrity is really about how you define it. What you see as integrity in other people tends to reflect what you do to show integrity to others. You also want to have an idea of what the opposite of integrity is. It’s important to think about this because integrity is not often defined. We just tend to label people as either having it or not having it.

However you get a grip on it, do you think integrity is important? Of course it is! A person could have a bunch of redeeming attributes but, if they are not seen as having integrity, the rest just doesn’t seem to matter.

A lack of integrity implies a lack of ability to place trust. Trust can be very hard to gain and even harder to regain once it has been lost. That is why integrity is so important. For you to be successful, people have to feel like they can trust you!

It’s a simple matter of doing the right thing and I know we all are capable of that. So what if you’ve made some mistakes in the past. When you make the effort to make things right, your ability to be trusted, your integrity, and your success will all grow.

True success is about having a balance in your life between general fulfillment and financial gain. Both of these things relate to your level of integrity! When you have integrity, people want to be like you and you set a great example for others. When you achieve this type of position in life, you also tend to attract money.

Becoming more successful is really about self-evaluation. Always be willing to improve things in your life that need improvement and make the things you’re already doing right even better! That is a sign of high integrity because it shows you never settle for the status quo. That sets a great example for others to follow!

I know very well that none of us are perfect! You can’t change things in the past; all you can do is move forward and make the most out of the things that are yet to come. When you commit to doing just that, you will start to become a person of higher integrity, no matter where your starting point may be!

In closing, I want to offer you what is perhaps an even better definition of integrity:

‘Always taking steps to make things better than they were before, no matter how good they may seem right now.’

People of integrity and success follow this formula. So can you so get out there and make it a better tomorrow! People will notice what you’re doing and your success will show for it.
