One minute you're confident and the next you're feeling inferior

One day Sam was walking down the street, on his way to his work. On the pavement, he saw a man in torn clothes. To himself, Sam thought: ' That's a very poor man; he can't afford to even buy new clothes instead of those torn ones'. Sam kept on walking until he saw someone in a very old beat car; being the owner of a relatively bigger car himself, Sam felt a little confident upon watching the man driving his old car.

A few minutes later, Sam ran into a guy of his age, driving a very big luxurious car; Sam instantly looked at the ground as he felt a bit inferior as he continued walking to work.

Comparison and inferiority feelings

What happened here? Why did Sam suddenly feel inferior despite his feelings of confidence just a few minutes earlier? That's on account of Sam's subconscious mind following the bad habit of comparison.

Whenever Sam meets or sees others, his mind automatically runs a process of comparison between himself and that person. Sam usually compares himself to others of lower social class and thus feels better than they are and considering that this is his pattern of thinking, whenever he meets people who're richer than he is, he feels inferior!!

How can Sam get to feel confident all the time?

The mind doesn't contradict itself; if you keep entertaining thoughts like you're being better than others because you have a bigger car or because you're richer, then on the first occasion of meeting someone who's richer or who owns a bigger car, you'll automatically feel inferior.

If you take part in the comparison game then you have to bear its double-edged consequences and I'm sure nobody wants to feel inferior at any point of his life. The solution is to forget about that comparison habit of yours; respect the poor and the rich, respect the C class and the A class citizens, and it's only then that you will feel confident all the time, even in the presence of the president of the United States; you will never feel inferior to him because your mind doesn’t draw any comparisons.
