In the mid-nineties, Gary Craig created the Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT. EFT is based on the work of Dr. Roger Callahan, and is essentially a greatly simplified version of TFT, or Thought-Field Therapy. EFT isn’t really “better” than TFT; it’s simply more accessible to the average person. EFT is based on the age-old premise that negative emotions and symptoms are caused by disruptions in the body’s energy systems. Judging by results, this is a workable premise; EFT is incredibly effective at resolving or eliminating a number of common complaints, fears, phobias, allergies, etc. If it weren’t for all the science behind TFT and EFT, these results would be considered miraculous. Thanks to EFT, they are now commonplace.

One of the more common problems EFT is regularly used to address is weight and body-image issues. In the United States, over two-thirds of the population is overweight; and, by the year 2010, it is estimated that half of our children will be overweight. In fact, a third of the American population is considered to be Obese; that’s over 100-million people in this country with a major health problem – a problem that happens to be easy to correct if addressed properly. By “addressed properly,” I simply mean addressing the underlying causes rather than the end-result of your body’s responses to those underlying causes. Those causes are, for the most part, psychological and emotional. But even those conditions previously believed to be “genetic” and unchangeable can be effectively addressed with EFT and other cutting-edge clinical tools and Energy Psychology techniques.

Fat is a protector; your body produces it in response to certain “perceived” threats. Among the things fat protects us from are: Possible starvation; fall and impacts; Cold temperatures; and unwanted attention or physical contact. Fat also makes us appear larger to our enemies – a potent psychological weapon. Essentially, fear of anything that could conceivably be “buffered-against” with fat, can trigger your body’s fat-production mechanisms. Practically anything can perceived as a potential threat; and our perceptions of threats trigger our stress-response – which is responsible for slowing or halting digestion and producing the stress hormone, cortisol (which helps your body convert and store fat). Stress is essential in the production and storage of fat; and stress is ultimately the result of your perceptions. Perceptions are based on beliefs – such as fears, worries, doubts, etc; and EFT is incredibly effective at helping you rewrite or remove limiting and unwanted beliefs, as well as eliminating stress.

EFT works – basically – by disrupting the stress response and encouraging your body’s energy systems to release their grip on stored information – information that is “short-circuiting” you system and sabotaging your ability to live and express yourself freely, easily, and joyfully. EFT accomplishes this by stimulating the nervous system and acupuncture system in a specific way – by simply tapping on some points with your fingertips! Essentially, by simply finding, or identifying, the underlying negative beliefs that are causing your weight-issues – and applying EFT to remove the emotional charge holding those self-limiting beliefs in place – you can quickly turn-off the “magnet” that’s been attracting and holding unwanted body fat.
