Truth be told, it’s really hard to build a successful home based business these days. For one thing, you have a ton of competition. Good competition from all the other legitimate home business opportunities. And competition, in a way, from all the bottom-feeders of the world who pretend to be businesspeople when they’re only snake-oil merchants peddling gifting programs and similar schemes.
There are hundreds of marketing gurus out there who can show you dozens of technical ways to increase your traffic, and improve your conversion and closing ratios. Ways like adding video and audio to your Web pages, adding or removing graphics, using hypnotic writing, choosing the right font size and color, using pop-up, pop-under, exit butlers, etc.
And that’s just for online marketing. Other experts will show you how to be efficient with business cards, postcards, sizzle cards, flyers, leaflets, and, of course, the three-foot rule.
I don’t want to talk about any of that – all the experts, and possibly your upline, do a pretty good job of it.
What I want to share with you here are five ‘BizzBuilders’. Those are (non-technical) things you can do that will help you grow / boost / build your home based business – online as well as in person. Hence the term ‘BizzBuilders’.
You know, you can have the best of the best gadgets available and you can be an amazingly effective copywriter all you want, but in the home business industry where people need to work closely with their sponsors to make it, you won’t succeed much, or for long, if you have the reputation of being an ass, or a bore, or someone who’s out of step,” “out of touch,” or “out of their mind”.
Here are five pretty simple, easy and common-sense things you can do that cost nothing and yet deliver great results over time:
1-Stand out!
Be unique. Be YOU! Be original so people will remember you. Use creativity and imagination. As Tom Peters said, “You either become distinct, or you become extinct.” If I leave a networking event with 10 business cards in my pocket from 10 eager home business builders, how will I remember YOU once I get home? The same question applies to my visiting 10 MLM websites back-to-back…
2-Be Enthusiastic
Enthusiasm is the greatest asset in the world! Showing enthusiasm for life, for your work, your career, your profession, your products or services, your industry, your business opportunity… What a great way to be different from many (perhaps most) people you meet on an average day – in person or on the Net!
And it costs nothing! Wow!
“Every great and commanding movement in the annals of the world is the triumph of enthusiasm. Nothing great was ever achieved without it.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Enthusiasm is the greatest asset in the world. It beats money and power and influence. It is no more or less than faith in action.” Henry Chester
3-Be known as a person who is IN!
“IN”: You have to be “IN” not “out” – as in “out of step,” “out of touch,” “out of your mind”…
Be IN the moment – “Wherever you are, be there!”
Be IN the room when things are happening – don’t be known as the one always IN absentia.
Stay IN touch – make following up your favorite hobby.
Be IN charge of your destiny – ”If it’s going to be, it’s up to me!”
Be IN control of your attitude –”It’s not what happens to you, it’s what you do about it.”
Be IN on what’s happening, what’s hot, what’s the IN thing to do, the IN Website or blog to be linked to!
Be IN with the right people – be the IN person to know.
Be constantly IN search of knowledge and new contacts.
Have it IN you to take action and to succeed.
Most important, make sure you brighten the room (virtual or not) and cause people to smile when you walk IN the room – not when you exit… and let as many people as you can find a friend IN you.
4-Be known as a person who is ON!
Being “ON”: another great reputation to have if you want to attract people, and success.
ON schedule, ON the ball, ON time, ON purpose, ON the move, ON the board (of directors, etc.), ON his or her way to the top, ON to something…
Also, be always turned ON, not “off”, and keep ON keepin’ ON!
5-Be patient (“The salt of patience seasons everything.” – Italian proverb)
Here is an apropos observation by Bert E. McCormick that unfortunately reflects today’s reality: “Once a man would spend a week patiently waiting if he missed a stagecoach. Now he rages if he misses the first section of a revolving door.”
… or if the Web site he’s trying to access takes more than 5 seconds to download! Ain’t that the truth?
This BizzBuilder is two-fold: first, be patient with yourself. Developing excellent communication skills and marketing material on the Internet, and becoming a successful home based business builder won’t happen overnight. This is a gardening activity, not a hunting expedition.
Second; be patient with others – road rage never does anyone any good. Be known as a patient person, that’s a great reputation to have. That’s a quality that most definitely will help you attract the right people – leads, contacts, prospects. referrals, distributors, sales, friends, promotions, success…
I know it’s not always an easy thing to do, demonstrating patience. Especially with those people who seem to have been put on earth for the sole purpose of testing our patience…
That’s particularly the time when you have to use tact, patience, poise, and, if needed, more tact.
TACT: thinking all you say…without saying all you think.
PATIENCE: the ability to idle your motor when you feel like stripping your gears.
POISE: the act of raising the eyebrows instead of the roof.
TACT: making your company feel at home, even though you wish they were.
And to close this topic, a look at the ‘lighter side’ of patience…PATIENCE: the quality you admire in the driver behind you…but can’t stand in the driver who’s in front of you.
I hope the “knowledge” you gleaned from this article will be helpful. Remember though that knowledge is power ONLY when it’s combined with ACTION! If you think the BizzBlockers above are valuable, DO something with them, and seek out more of them.
I wish you ALL the business success you desire and deserve. Remember that the success you desire is function of your ambition, but the success you deserve is function of your ACTION!
