There is so much fear and negativity flying around these days. Fear about the yo-yo-ing stock market, the housing/credit situation, the potential of a recession, the possibility of lay offs, etc. The fear is everywhere. You can’t turn on the television, read the paper or internet without hearing doom and gloom. If you have any contact with the outside world, you are bombarded with fear. Even if you’re not participating in such conversations, it’s difficult to escape it. From the way it sounds, no one anywhere has any money any more and the world is going to end. It overwhelms the senses and it’s everywhere! It can make the most positive person negative.

What can I possibly do to solve this crisis? Noting, or so you think. This problem is just too bad, to scary and to dire. Whether you are directly affected by the events or not, you are afraid to go anywhere, do anything, spend a penny, even breathe. You think you are helpless and all you can do is ride it out and keep your fingers crossed and hope it passes with minimal impact. However, that only adds to the problem.

How am I, one person, contributing to this crisis? By buying into the fear and negativity. Don’t go there. Just don’t go there. It’s that easy yet not that simple. Yes you’re uneasy and things are changing on a huge scale but you don’t have to buy into the panic. In fact, it is your responsibility not to buy into it.

Huh?

The more you allow your thoughts and feelings to be overtaken with the fear and negativity, the more you are contributing to the problem. Yes, you are actually contributing to the doom and gloom reality. If you allow yourself to stay out of all that fear and hold the energy of hope, light and faith, you will contribute to shifting this challenging situation and creating a more positive reality for all. Yes, for all. That is your responsibility. Nothing changes until you do.

This may seem like a daunting task with everyone around you in a panic, especially if you are having your own challenges. If you are directly affected by this, staying out of the fear and negativity and holding the hope and positive perspective, you will feel more centered and calm and allow you to gain clarity to do what you need to do to manage your situation. If you are not directly affected, you will participate in the creation of a positive outcome for all. It’s entirely up to you.

This is the time of conscious choice. You have impact. You can choose to buy into the fear and see everything going to hell and all of us going with it and that is what will happen. Or you choose to hold the hope, light and faith that all is in right and perfect order and things really aren’t that bad and things won’t really be that bad.

How do you stay out of the fear and root yourself in hope? Breathe. Play. Be in nature. Spend time with people you love. Reach out to others. Do things you enjoy whenever possible. Laugh. Have a little more fun. Know that we can manage these times by supporting each other and be open to new possibilities. And by all means, just don’t go there!
