“In 2001 whilst at work I felt the most excruciating pain in my pubic area that had me folded in half on the office floor. I started bleeding uncontrollably and was rushed to Westminster Hospital.

After the examination they discarded the possibility of a miscarriage. I was diagnosed by the doctors with a severe case of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) [6], more specifically Dysmenorrhoe - painful menstruation and Menorrhagia - abnormal bleeding of the uterus during menstruation.” Aglaia

All in all for 14 years Aglaia Hernandez Kortis had been suffering with this severe and merciless form of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) or Premenstrual Tension (PMT).

Aglaia says “For a week before my periods, I would experience: mood swings; irritability or aggression; extra sensitive to other people’s comments; back pain; heaviness in my legs and cravings for chocolate (obsessively).

On top of this during my periods, I used to experience the worst possible cramps on day 1 and 2, forcing me to take a very strong painkiller every 4 hours to be able to continue with my daily tasks. In addition for the 4 days during my period I used to experience: an upset stomach and stomach pains; lack of energy and tiredness; a feeling of sadness; breast tenderness; heavy bleeding; feeling bloated and skin breakouts.

This meant for 11 in every 28 days I suffered with these symptoms. That’s 132 days a year, nearly a third of my adult life…I couldn’t let it continue!”

When Aglaia met Michael

Aglaia says “The gynaecologists and doctors suggested I should try and cope with my monthly symptoms by improving my diet, exercising and trying to remain stress free in the 2 weeks prior to my menstruation.

I did my best to implement such changes, although my symptoms diminished slightly, a little stress would set them off again with a mighty force, I felt like a slave to my own body.

Fear took over my life on a monthly basis, dependency of painkillers developed, anxiety, depression and a sense of helplessness. This was until I came across RaphaYad Bioenergy Healing and Michael Cohen.”

In January 2006 Aglaia took a big step and started RaphaYad Bioenergy Healing Treatment [2] with me in order to deal with these and other symptoms.

What transpired over six months was quite literally life transforming. In particular the shifts to her menstrual cycle:

~ PMT symptoms reduced dramatically.
~ Periods arrived “without painful warnings”.
~ No more mood swings or emotional imbalances.
~ Stopped taking painkillers.
~ Controllable and even level of bleeding.
~ No skin breakouts.
~ Reduced chocolate cravings.

Why is Bioenergy Healing Treatment effective

Bioenergy Healing is effective because it allowed Aglaia's body to break the cycle it had got caught up into for 14 years. Because Bioenergy Healing has the ability to release memory patterns on both the cellular and psychological levels, Aglaia was able to shift forward without having to focus on the problem or issues related to it. It was like pressing some master re-set buttons, without the hormone supplements or cognitive / stress therapy.

RaphaYad Bioenergy Healing challenges conventional medicine in the way it can re-wire the brain and the body’s biological and cellular systems. Which in turn can have a dramatic affect on the functioning of the body’s production of chemical compounds, hormones and their entwinement with the mind.

Treatment Techniques

RaphaYad Bioenergy Healing is a dynamic technique that uses hands-on and hands-off techniques to scan the body’s circuitry (electromagnetic) system and connective pathways. These techniques pinpoint the primary blockage points that are the root cause of the physical and psychological symptoms.

The blockages are then released through hands-on manipulation techniques and hands-off stretching energy techniques. These lead to major shifts in the mind and physiological function:

The Mind

With respect to the mind, neuron communication determines a person’s total perception on life and everything that they experience. There is nothing permanent about what they think, feel or do. It is just their current make-up that causes their brain neurons to fire in a certain way.

By normalising the production of chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain i.e. Serotonin will have a major affect on symptoms such as irritability, depression and mood swings.

Bioenergy Healing can enhance neuron communication (re-wiring of the brain) - bringing about an enhancement / shift in: perception, balance, order, rationale, coping mechanism, non-dependency, confidence, positive mental attitude, clarity, focus, ability to adapt (without compromise), instinctual awareness and survival skills.

The Physiological Function

RaphaYad Bioenergy Healing can have an affect on the function of the cells responsible for the body’s reproductive and hormonal systems. Working with both hands-on and hands-off techniques brings order to cells in these systems to enable them to function effectively.

Bioenergy Healing simply brings order to cell function by activating repair and regeneration, which then brings order to the mind. This in turn enables the body to produce the necessary hormones and balance its sensitivity to estrogen and progesterone.

What we are talking about is defragmentating the body i.e. to remove the disorder/chaos, bringing about a level of order to the cells and mind.

The Scientific Basis to Cellular Disorders

Michael Cohen, founder of the Bioenergy Healing Research Foundation simply explains,

"Every cell in the body has a specific purpose, which is determined by the cell's gene (a set of instructions). The gene also determines the contents of the cell. If there is disorder to the cell(s) i.e. too many or too little ingredients then it can't function effectively.

So, disorder to a group of cells will cause disorder to the tissue, this in turn brings disorder to the reproductive and hormonal systems. Now we can begin to understand how this can affect the body’s ability to produce progesterone. The hormone imbalance then leads to severe cramps / pains. This in turn affects the signals to the brain (neurological system) affecting the mind and perception i.e. mood swings, irrationality, irritability, stress and emotional imbalances. Thereafter we are caught up in a loop.

Bioenergy Healing simply brings orders to cell function and neurological systems by activating repair and regeneration, which then brings order to the mind.”

Causes of PMS & PMDD

Regular periods are a part of every woman’s physiology. How your body deals and experiences them has a lot to do with how your body’s systems and mind are functioning.

The exact cause of PMS is still not known. Researchers [7] believe that PMS symptoms occur because progesterone and estrogen cause changes in brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. The most likely neurotransmitters affected are:

Serotonin - Women with PMS have fluctuations in serotonin levels. These changes may cause depression and carbohydrate cravings. Serotonin is made by the body from the amino acid tryptophan.

GABA - stands for gamma-aminobutyric acid. This neurotransmitter is important in feeling calm.

Endorphins are important in the experience of pain and pleasure. Estrogen and progesterone change endorphin levels.

Norepinephrine and epinephrine are also neurotransmitters that influence mood. In addition, these substances play a role in blood pressure and heart rate.

Other research indicates:

Nutrients - symptoms may result from or be aggravated by variations in nutrients such as magnesium and calcium, although there is limited scientific evidence for this [7].

Yeast infections (such as thrush) can cause PMS [4].

Additional ways to relieve PMS
Suggestions [4] include:
· Taking regular exercise, such as aerobics or jogging - exercise can help with the symptoms, but it should be done regularly, not just when symptoms are present.
· Avoiding stress at home and work in the time before a period is due.
· Pinpointing and avoiding any emotional triggers or stress that make the symptoms worse.
· Taking vitamin B (particularly B6) is helpful.
· Daily magnesium or calcium supplements may help.
· Taking evening primrose oil helps relieve breast discomfort but the scientific evidence is patchy. Long-term treatment (more than 3 months) may be required before any effect is noticed.
All of these suggestions require a precise and conscious effort to try and control, on a monthly basis, all symptoms experienced.
