The key to getting the most out of life is to first have a clear picture of where you're at right now. For example, if you wanted to go on a trip across the country, you'd obviously take out a map, determine your point of departure and THEN chart the course to your destination. Life is no exception. Many people skip this step and jump right into "goal-setting" which can be a big mistake because we're not all starting at the same place. So be sure to evaluate your life in the following areas - physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, occupational, relationships, family, and social.

Once you've determined your starting point, it's important to realize WHY you've become who you are. Despite all the goal-setting, pep-talks and techniques, sometimes our deepest, innermost beliefs sabotage all this hard work. I call these beliefs "the myths that move us". Realizing, confronting and de-bunking your personal "myths", is the only way to avoid repeating unhealthy patterns.

Now that you've "let go" of unwanted baggage, you'll be ready to move on to the third key. You need to spend some time figuring out exactly what it is you truly want in life! Develop a clear understanding of your interests, desires and talents. Think about what you're good at and what you're passionate about? Uncover the answers!

As I mentioned earlier, many people skip right to the "how-to" without doing all the pre-work. Taking short-cuts like that are only short-cutting yourself! The fourth key is to set things in motion to achieving what you truly want in life. This is where goal-setting, visualization, affirmation, motivation, homework, reward techniques, etc. come into play.

Accepting your life as a process in which you are always developing is important. The fifth key is to re-evaluate your priorities and goals from time to time because we are always evolving as human beings. Remember to chart your progress and make sure you stay on track!
