Many approach the New Year with a list of resolutions from “finding the love of my life” to “finally signing up for that silent retreat,” and happily stick the list on the refrigerator.

The trouble is, often times we mean the best when we make those goals, but then, life happens. The new promotion keeps you out of the gym you desperately wish to return to, the meditation practice has been put off to next month because you are just exhausted by the time you get home, and before you know it, it’s June. The piece of paper on the fridge is starting to look like some sad laundry list from the past.

Here are five ways for you to stay motivated, and actually achieve the goals you set out for yourself.

1. Clarify What You Truly Desire

Spend some time to do some soul digging, and ask yourself, “What is it that I really want?”

We all want many things in life. In my coaching practice, clients often come to me and say, “I want to be happy.”

“To be happy” is very vague. I’m not saying it is impossible to achieve, but the universe responds much better to goals, desires and intentions that are stated in a clear and detailed fashion.

Write down some goals that are actionable for you, and can lead to clear results.

2. Dream big. But be realistic

If you have an income goal such as “making a consistent revenue of $10,000/month,” but your current monthly income level is far below, it will be difficult to manifest that not because miracles don’t happen, but your unconscious mind currently does not have the capacity to accept the new goal as real.

Any time when you are looking to experience quantum leaps, it is important to first do the inner work to get the unconscious mind to be on board because 95% of what you manifest in life comes from deep-seated beliefs, values and programming that reside in the unconscious mind.

The unconscious mind cannot manifest what it does not accept to be the absolute truth, so rather than making goals that it may go “yeah right,” be realistic as you take baby steps, and work your way up.

3. More Is Not Necessarily Merrier

It’s easy for all of us to get excited, and carried away when making goals. More desires come up, and the list keeps getting longer.

This approach can be counterproductive simply because your energy becomes much more focused if there are only a couple of goals as opposed to the 20 that you are looking to achieve. After all, focused energy is what creates.

Rather than trying to fit as many goals into your life as you can, start with three that really matter to you that you can dedicate laser-sharp focus to.

4. Understand Time

Time can be tricky since it is a men-made concept. In the quantum field, there is simply no time, and everything exists in the eternal Now. This is a difficult notion for the human mind, but you can use it to your advantage.

Given that every possibility and outcome exists as a dormant potential in the infinite Now, everything you desire is already here. If you can allow it to exist in your imagination, and enter the state of being of “living as if it’s already happened,” you are aligning your energy with that outcome which leads to aligned steps.

You can definitely put a timeframe around your goals, I would do it just to help the human mind which only understands linear time, but the key is to not get frustrated if something does not show up at that exact moment of your “deadline.” Rather, understand how time really works when it comes to creativity in the field, and play with it by engaging in visualization techniques that can help training the unconscious mind to embrace, and receive what you are looking to create.

5. Take One Small Action Each Day

No goal can come to fruition without aligned steps. It doesn’t matter how small of a step or action you take even if it is just one minute of visualization, commit yourself to take at least one action per day.

When you make this commitment, you are training your mind to receive inspiration from the universe as well as to act on it on cue.
