Can you determine the type of flange your water piping need? Do you know the advantages of various flange options available? Most of us would fail to answer the basic questions mentioned above. We all have been practically living with these support parts without having a single idea regarding their functions.

There are several types of flanges based on the requirements of the piping system. Flange manufacturers in India, however, are known for producing standard as well as premium flange types used all over the world.

TYPES OF FLANGES

Based on their usage and shapes, there are five standard types of flanges used in Indian households and industrial works. The flanges are the external rims and ridges that conjoin the network of pipes, provide support to cylindrical bodies and sometimes work as an attachment ring for T or I shaped materials.

Here are five of its types listed for giving you a clear picture.

WELDING NECK FLANGE
Welding neck flanges, as the name suggests, have a neck like a long tapered hub that could be installed into the pipes. These hubs are known for regulating mechanical stress and allowing smooth passage of fluid material. Keeping this property in mind, such flanges are usually installed in hose pipes and borings for managing the high and low-pressure control of the flow of water.

SLIP-ON FLANGE
A slip-on flange comes with two filet welds fixed inside as well as outside of the central cavity. They have a compact round shape and enable easy conjoining of pipes forming a network. These flanges, however, are not fit for bulk usage and are used for minor fittings inside the piping system.

THREADED FLANGE
The threaded flanges follow the principle of screw nail and hence have its inner cavity all lined up. Pipes and fittings are usually wired over it without using the extra support of a seam weld. These flanges have different pressure ratings and are used mostly at gas stations fittings, tight air fittings, and other fittings involving zero leakage.

LAP JOINT FLANGE
These flat flanges are used where the conjunction of stub ends is needed. Lap joints accommodate the stub end part of the fitting in its round inner perimeter. They are cost-effective options for alloy fittings or steel pipelines. Lap joints can be easily rotated around the accessories and can provide better bolt alignment.

BLIND FLANGE
Blind flange, unlike others, is a blocking flange as it doesn’t have a central hollow area. Such flanges are fitted inside a pipeline of a simple hose for restricting the flow of fluids inside. They are known to withstand bolting forces and mechanical pressure applied by the material inside and are counted among the strongest of flanges by several flange manufacturers in India.

Summing Up

All these flange types serve a different role in easing up the working of a pipeline. However, it depends upon our better judgment that which flange type suits our budget, need, and convenience. With the help of the descriptions as mentioned earlier, you can make your decision. Choose the best flange type now and keep your water pipes working smoothly.
