We all love reading books and at some point or the other we look for places to buy books online. Based on private research, I have compiled a list of few online bookstores that are really worth checking. These sites are great and outsmart their competitors in one way or the other. Here is my list of 5 online bookstores that you need to check out when buying books online. The list is no particular order.

1. Amazon.com: One of the pioneers and trusted online merchant which is a great choice for buying new as well as used books online.

Since it’s a marketplace, i.e. lots of booksellers sell their books through Amazon; chances are that you will find the book you are looking for. The website is designed to track your searches and create a list of similar items that a customer might enjoy.

But there are few limitations as Items from Amazon Marketplace can be shipped to several international regions, but there are few places such as Africa, Island Nations, Israel, Latin America and Middle East where items from Amazon are not shipped.

2. Powell’s.com: Powell’s is the largest independent bookseller in the world. They offer a wide selection of new, used, and rare and textbooks at a fair price. But you do not actually save money when buying from Powell’s.

Though the books are offered on the competitive prices but you end up paying more if you opt for International shipping. Powell’s calculate shipping price on the basis of number of items ordered. For example: when you choose International Shipping Powell’s will charge you $7.00 as a cost per shipment and $5.99 for per shipment.

3. Flipkart: An exciting new way to buy books online in India. Flipkart offers free shipping on all its items which are fairly low priced. The customer service provided by this online bookstore is excellent and it promises to deliver its orders in the best condition and on time. Though everyone is welcome to make their purchases from Flipkart from anywhere in the world but they need to ensure that the delivery address that they provide is within India. Flipkart doesn’t deliver items internationally, it only delivers in India.

4. Barnes and Nobles: Barnes and Nobles has vast storehouses across the U.S that stock over 1 million titles for immediate delivery that is more titles than any other online bookstore. Barnes and Nobles also offer editor recommendations and customer reviews on more than thousands of titles. Though they offer free delivery on the orders but that applies to only those orders that are shipped within the U.S. only and if you are a non member free shipping is applicable only when you make a minimum purchase of $25 which is calculated after all other discounts are applied. You have to become a member of Barnes and Nobles to enjoy Free Express Shipping in 1-3 business days with no minimum purchase required.

5. Printsasia: Printsasia’s huge database will fulfill all your book requirements especially when you are looking for books in multiple languages. It’s a book store that is emerging with a rapid speed because of its honest pricing and huge inventory. Since they are completely dedicated to bookselling you can count on them for securing rare titles.

The most important thing that I noticed while shopping from Printsasia was that it calculates its Shipping Rates on the basis of the weight of the book and not on the basis of number of items purchased. This is especially important when you are ordering for more than one book at time as you are not charged flat shipping fee for each book.

This makes bulk book buying extremely cost effective for customers. It is worth mentioning here is that this website ships books worldwide.
