Have you ever felt like you needed to get something done, and you didn’t have the internal resources to get it done?

We all have had that feeling at some point of our lives. Perhaps it was a combination of internal resources and external support that you needed. Either way, the task at hand would be done much easier if you had whatever you required to get it done.

My goal is to give you some very simple, yet effective tools to gain and sustain more empowerment and energy in your life.

You would’ve felt empowered and energised (collectively or individually) at some stage. Would you like to have more of that empowerment and energy?

You can have just that, simply by applying these keys to your life.

So, here are my 5 KEYS TO EMPOWERMENT & ENERGY:

1. Learn to disown other people’s negativity– William James (a philosopher and psychologist from the 1800’s) said “The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook." When people project their negativity upon you, you have to discern what to do with it. Does their opinion have any merit? Or are you better off in just ignoring them? Sometimes people may say something negative about you, and you may feel bad about it. I suggest that you ask yourself if there is something positive that you can take from them, and improve your life in some way. If not, you are better off in just dis-owning their negativity. M.I.T (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) did a study which found that whenever a negative statement is made towards a person, it takes seventeen positive statements just to neutralise the initial negative statement! There may always be people around you who may bring you down or make you feel bad. If you are careful in choosing whom to listen to, you will be minimising the negative effects that other people have on your life.

2. Detach yourself from certain events, circumstances, and experiences– there is more to you than the events, circumstances, and experiences of your life. The holistic “you” is made up of many things. An event, circumstance, or experience may have a significant impact on your life. That impact will depend on the meaning that you give to that those events, circumstances, and experiences. Sometimes it would be purposeful to separate yourself from what happens to you. Learn to change your perspectives. When I was doing Life Coaching, I would often ask my clients to take a bird’s eye view of their current circumstances, and ask “If a third person was looking at this from a bird’s eye view, what could they learn from this?” What happens to you matters. What you do with it matters even more! Victor Frankl (a psychiatrist and holocaust survivor) said "The last of human freedoms is the ability to choose one's attitude in a given set of circumstances." Please take a minute to reflect on that quote, and see how you can apply it in your daily life. Your attitude makes a massive difference in how empowered or dis-empowered you feel. Please choose your attitudes carefully. Study your attitudes, and be on a path to continually improving your attitude.

3. Learn to accept life more –Motivational speaker Les Brown said “Until you handle it with grace, it will be stuck in your face!” Acceptance is the key. Learn to be more accepting of life. By no means am I saying that you should just accept things as they are and become complacent. All I am saying is that you should come from a place of acceptance, and then work on improvement. There is a famous quote from Carl Jung which says “What we resist, persists.” To which I have added “What we accept, empowers”. Another key to being more accepting of life is to discipline your emotions. With my Life Coaching clients, I was very empathic on emotional fitness. Most people know about physical fitness, and they exercise to get physically fitter. I suggest that you work on getting emotionally fitter. Learn to respond to situations, instead of just reacting. When you respond to situations, please come from a place of intellect, not just emotions. Give an interpretation of events, circumstances, and experiences that will empower you.

4. Focus on your abilities, not your limitations– one of my favourite quotes is from Michael Jordan - "Never say never, because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.” What I have discovered through my research into human behaviour over almost a decade is that some limitations are self imposed! There will also be times when people will create limitations for you. Oprah Winfrey was told that she is cosmetically challenged, and she will never make it on television. How wrong were the people who doubted her? So, learn to focus on your abilities more and more. Energy flows where focus goes. Does your focus empower you or dis-empower you? Some people just focus on problems. Hence, they don’t focus enough on solutions. Become a person of solution orientation.

5. Take more responsibility for developing your life– invest in your personal development. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on my personal development, I have read hundreds of books, I have listened to thousands of hours of audio materials on personal development, and I keep investing in myself. What you invest in yourself, cannot be taken away from you. You can either be complacent, and do nothing. Or you can be proactive and take action to change your life for the better. Re-invent yourself, for you, for your family, for the planet, and for every living being. My three suggestions for growth in life are; 1.) Learn. 2.) Apply. 3.) Inspire.

So, there you have it, my 5 KEYS TO EMPOWERMENT & ENERGY.

Quote: "Your circumstances will improve when you make the effort to improve them. Start where you are right now. You have everything it takes to reach for whatever you desire. Stop wishing. Use your time, your energy, your thoughts and efforts to make it happen! You’ll be glad that you did!”
Les Brown
