How do you know when it’s the right time to make a change and begin to take the small steps that will hopefully lead you to success and a more positive life?
Here are some points to ponder that may help you decide:
Are you bored with what you do? Boredom is one of those messages from your intuition that change is needed. It’s a signal that your energy is being drained and that something new needs to happen. Bear in mind that the change that’s required may simply be a shift in attitude or a new way of approaching something. It could also mean it’s time to take action and make an outer, tangible change in your life.
How will you feel if you don’t make the change? This is a powerful question to ask. Imagine yourself a few months to a few years in the future. Envision your life if you don’t make the change you’re contemplating. If the predominate feeling is one of regret and sadness it’s time to make the leap and do the thing you want to do. Are you guaranteed smooth sailing from here on in? Probably not. However, how’s the sailing right now?
What are five “action steps” you could take? Look at your list and ask yourself which one has the most vitality. Is there one that stands out that makes you feel excited and passionate? Those strong feelings are another intuitive indicator that you’re heading in the right direction. Remember, this doesn’t need to be a huge leap. If it feels too big, there are probably some ways that you could break it down into smaller, less risky steps.
What’s the worst that could happen? It’s normal to feel at least a little anxious when you’re about to do something new and different. This is the time to use the left side of your brain — the logical side — to reflect on the possible consequences of your actions. Just don’t belabor this part! Be both realistic and creative. Do you have enough money to support you during a transition? If not, what are some innovative ways to create financial reserves? Who will your decision impact? Make sure they’re on board. What do you need in order to make the change as easy and effortless as possible?
Oprah writing in her “O” magazine states, “I believe we discover our destinies in the smallest ways — in a fascination with words, in the thrill a child’s laughter evokes, and even in a familiar song we keep humming. If you pay attention to the cues — to the time you’ve felt most joyous, most fully engaged, most connected with yourself and others — you’ll always be guided to the next best place.”
Where do you feel guided to begin? What needs to be done first? Where can you make a difference today? Trust your gut and take the leap!
