Twitter is an excellent way to socialize. Think of it as a big coffee house or party where everyone shares information. Millions of different conversations happening all at once. Plus you can search for just the topic you want.
Best of all Twitter is an amazing tool for business owners and consumers.
The thing to understand about Twitter is that Tweets (your statuses on Twitter) occur in real time, making it an up-to-the minute medium.
For example, if you are the owner of a sandwich shop, you can tweet to your customers about a new sandwich or lunch special. You can tweet this information a few minutes before noon, when business people are thinking of where to go to lunch. Since Twitter is in real time, you can attract your business right away.
The business aspect of Twitter is diverse and growing. Here are some other business uses of Twitter:
1. Market research
This is something that can be laborious, but Twitter makes it faster and easier. You can research your potential market or audience and see what they are tweeting about. You can also follow trending topics to see what is “hot” in the Twittersphere.
2. Become a thought leader
No one in your industry tweeting? Even if they are you can climb to the top of the industry mountain and become the person that others follow to get the latest and greatest. With such a new advertising format, you can stand out from the crowd. Provide valuable information, be helpful, and being quirky and fun is okay!
3. Industry News and trends
Follow what is happening in your business industry to understand the new trends and avoid the things that will cost you time, money, and business. Participate in conversation to help other understand why your business is cutting edge.
Remember that Tweets are like (brief) conversations. You use conversational language that conveys information in a few words. Your face or familiar image will show on your avatar when you tweet. It gives the personal contact that business consumers appreciate. Tweeting for business can focus on selling your products and services, but think outside of the box! Use it for market research, to the be the thought-leader in your industry and to keep abreast of industry news and trends.
