Nutmeg or Myristica fragrans is a spice that has been used safely for thousands of years and was first found in Asia, Indonesia, India, and in the Caribbean, and other countries. And nutmeg is a powerful healing agent for lots of different ailments. This spice was highly prized in the early years of the spice trade. And wars were fought to taking control of spices in general and nutmeg by many different countries.

Great Smell and Taste- Nutmeg is soothing and warming and has a great aroma that everyone loves.

Parts Used - The fruit is used and the seed inside or nut is dried and ground to make the spice.

Large Tree - The nutmeg tree is large and grows in tropical areas of the world and has oblong leaves and a medium-size fruit with a large seed which is the spice and the outer red covering of the seed is used as Mace another spice.

Anti-inflammatory - A study in the Journal of Food and Nutrition Research showed that nutmeg is a very good anti-inflammatory agent that works just as well or even better than most of the over the counter pain relievers.

Helps with Pain - The National Center for Biotechnology has found that the oils in nutmeg are great for getting rid of pain. Works well for all kinds of pain including arthritis and helps with the swelling of arthritis and other pains.

Helps with Insomnia - Studies show with over 250 patients showed that nutmeg worked for insomnia and also increased their duration of good deep sleep. Nutmeg tea takes 2 or 3 hours to take effect and works for 8 hours so have your tea early in the evening.

Soothes Away Indigestion - Nutmeg tea has long been used to soothe away indigestion and even help with gastric ulcers because it kills some kinds of bacteria.

Inexpensive - The use of nutmeg is so common that nutmeg is very inexpensive.

Dose - A very small amount of nutmeg is all that is needed for great benefits. Just one or two drops of the oil. And in powder form from 1/8 to 1 gram daily.

Making Nutmeg Tea - Use only 1/3 teaspoon in hot water steeped for 15 minutes and then cooled and enjoyed once or twice daily.

No Side-Effects in Normal Doses - Side-Effects - In normal doses nutmeg has been used for thousands of years without health challenges. But in large excessive doses such as 20 to 30 grams a day nutmeg can cause psychotropic effects, hallucinatory effects, vomiting, heart palpitations, seizures, and some narcotic effects. Remember people around the world use nutmeg every single day in small amounts with wonderful beneficial health effects.
